T. J. Day Hall, originally constructed in 1936 as a library, has become a light, airy, high-tech academic facility, increasing Linfield College’s classroom space by almost 28 percent. The building includes classrooms, labs and meeting spaces, along with 30 offices for faculty and staff. Work included seismic upgrade, installation of complex mechanical systems, lighting and electrical upgrades and architectural finishes. Original design elements including arched windows and glass doors were maintained. The building is topped with a photovoltaic array and is LEED Gold certified.

Testimonials
“Our partnership with Walsh’s team for TJ Day Hall is truly that – a collaborative alliance. We have worked in concert to find solutions to the inevitable challenges presented in renovating an historic building, and to make decisions that will ultimately serve our students and faculty well into the future. While obviously committed to the building construction process, Walsh has never lost sight of the bigger picture. That is, TJ Day Hall is a gateway location within the heart of our academic quad, and will be the first building most of our prospective students see on the McMinnville campus. Walsh’s approach to the project began with the safety of our students, faculty, staff and visitors at the forefront, and that is where it has remained.
Walsh’s business model focuses on people. Walsh understands the unique and inclusive environment that exists within a college community. Communication with the project team has been timely and informative, with the intent of engaging our community in the process. Walsh created an interactive blog on our Linfield College website, along with interior and exterior webcams allowing for the opportunity to view ongoing updates and watch key elements of the construction work. This continuous communication has enabled our students, faculty, staff and trustees to maintain active interest in the project.”

The project was designed to meet LEED Silver; however, in part through the project team’s diligent tracking of achievable points, T. J. Day Hall reached LEED Gold Certification, becoming the first building on campus to be Certified. Informational displays show students and visitors different energy efficiency measures included in the design.
