Salishan Redevelopment

Nearly 1,000 new apartments and townhomes of affordable rental housing and 300 single-family homes for sale on a 180-acre site

As part of the HOPE IV grant funded projects, Walsh managed the original construction of the New Salishan community between 2004-2011 requiring extensive infrastructure work to support the new community. The Salishan development is situated in southeast Tacoma, Washington, on a 180-acre site that was originally constructed in 1942 to provide 855 housing units for war workers. Since that time, they had grown into unsustainable public housing units with failing electrical systems, worn out water distribution system, and eroding sewer system. The New Salishan project included new roads, alleyways, and parking lots, in addition to all site utilities, erosion control, demolition, and bio-infiltration swales in an environmentally responsible design.

Upon completion, we delivered nearly 1,000 new apartments and townhomes of affordable rental housing and 300 single-family homes for sale to Salishan and the community. The project exceeded goals for hiring and had a substantially positive economic impact on the area.
