Portland Children’s Museum

A modern hands-on museum catering to children ages 1 to 13

The Portland Children’s Museum is a modern hands-on museum catering to children ages 1 to 13. Renovation of the former OMSI building provides 50,300 SF of usable space, more than three times that of their previous facility. By the time the remodel was completed, 10 months had elapsed and 75,000 SF had been affected in major seismic, structural, mechanical, electrical and cosmetic upgrades.

During the remodel interior spaces were modified to house various exhibits including a “water room,” which was designed by one of the country’s foremost water park designers. Studio and classroom facilities were created from former exhibit and storage areas. At the exterior a geodesic dome housing a planetarium was removed and the building entry was rebuilt.
