Giving Back in 2023

Staying true to our values is at the core of how we have done business since 1961.

A key tenet of ours is generosity. As we reflect back on 2023, we celebrate the ways in which we've shown up for our communities, while also acknowledging there is much more to be done.

From holiday drives, fundraising, mentoring the next generation of builders, cleaning up our cities, and collectively donating nearly $372,000 to our communities through our annual Employee Giving Campaign, we are always looking for ways to give back.

Below is a round-up of some of the ways we’ve engaged our value of generosity in 2023:

Our Portland office partnered with LRS Architects to build a 7'-6" tall Hestu from the Legend of Zelda from over 3,500 items of food. All items were donated to the Portland Food Bank.
Members from our Portland teams had fun building with middle and high school aged students at the Annual Oregon Tradeswomen's Career Fair–an event we are proud to have been a sponsor and exhibitor since its inception thirty years ago.
Our Seattle region’s annual charity golf tournament had the theme “Loudest Legs” and raised $12,600 for El Cento de la Raza, thanks to our wonderful trade partners.
Many of our team members participated in Solve Oregon events this year focused on cleaning up downtown Portland and the Lair Hill neighborhood.
We continued our relationship with the Pink Lemonade Project, fundraising to benefit breast cancer awareness and participated in our second annual 5k.
Several members of our Seattle region took part in National Rebuilding Day with Rebuilding Together South Sound. Thanks to their efforts, a needy family now has a new wheelchair ramp, along with a few other safety upgrades in their home. This is an event we participate in annually.

In addition, we have:

  • Partnered with REACH Community Development to complete home improvements for NE Portland resident, and participated in their School Supply Giveaway
  • Helped Transition Projects Inc. with men and women’s shelter clothing donations, in addition to their quarterly Bud Clark dinners
  • Assembled 50 Hope Kits for the Breast Cancer Foundation in honor of former employee Diane Mitchell
  • Signed up to host a De La Salle Work Study Program's Student Associate every Thursday for the school year
  • Hosted a team in Providence’s Treat Yourself Charity 5K
  • Hosted a team in Oregon Humane Society’s Doggie Dash 5k
  • Hosted a Holiday Drive benefitting Interim CDA in our Seattle office
  • Hosted a Holiday Drive benefiting Ronald McDonald House Charities in our Portland office

"Built from humble beginnings, and remaining mission-based to this day, WALSH truly does walk the talk. I'm happy to be a part of a place that strives to make a difference."

Jennifer Cornilles, Marketing Director

It’s an honor for us to do what we can for our clients and our communities. Construction is a symbiotic relationship and a privilege we don’t take for granted. Perhaps our most proud offering is our annual Employee Giving Campaign. This is an opportunity to let our employees choose from a list of selected charities for the year, and give whatever they feel inclined to, either as a one-time donation, or throughout the year from their paycheck. Our employees enjoy taking part and Walsh matches all proceeds. This year, we were delighted to give a collective total of nearly $372,000!

As we move into 2024, we hope by sharing the ways in which we give, we spark an idea or an interest in others to do the same. It would be our pleasure to walk alongside you in your efforts.
